Everything you need to know about AuthorOnAir.com

Distribution

Your episode goes onto the AuthorOnAir podcast feed and is live on Spotify. Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music submissions are in progress and will follow shortly. The RSS feed lives at authoronair.com/podcast/feed.xml — if you ever want to take your episodes somewhere else, the feed travels with you.

General

Yes — the homepage has a one-minute live sample you can try right now without an account. Enter your name and a book title (or just make one up) and you'll be talking with the AI host in seconds. After that, the free account gives you a full 5-minute episode, no credit card required.

Each book in your dashboard lets you pick from six hosts with different styles — from warm and literary (Eleanor) to playful and jazz-like (Theo) to stately BBC-era gravitas (Henry). You can preview each voice before committing, and you can switch hosts between episodes if you want a different feel for a different book.

Yes. If your account email matches your SelfPublishing.pro account, your library will appear automatically on your dashboard and you can pull a book in with one click — no re-uploading needed. Only titles that include a manuscript file are eligible.

Yes — if you need a break mid-interview, click Pause and your progress is saved automatically. Your transcript and audio are preserved. When you're ready, open the episode again and continue right where you left off. The AI host will have context from everything you recorded before the pause.

One episode per book per month. Your first episode for each book goes live immediately when you publish it. Additional episodes for the same book queue automatically and release on a 30-day schedule — so you can record all of your themes in one sitting and the show drip-releases them for you.

PDF or ePub, up to 30 MB. Most exports from Word, Scrivener, or your publisher's files work fine. If your account email matches your SelfPublishing.pro account, your books will appear in the dashboard automatically — no upload needed.

Yes — before the interview starts, you choose your turn mode. Auto-detect (recommended) has the host respond after about 1.5 seconds of silence, which feels natural for most conversations. Manual mode means the host waits until you tap a 'Done with my turn' button, so you can take as long as you like before handing back the conversation. There is also a 'Take a Beat' button mid-session that mutes your microphone so you can gather your thoughts without accidentally triggering the host.

Legal

You do. We hold a non-exclusive licence to produce and distribute the episodes you authorise — and the moment you delete a show, we pull it from the public directories within seven days. See our Terms for the full text.

Pricing

Solo Author covers one book. Series covers up to five — useful if you've got a trilogy, a non-fiction backlist, or you're a small imprint. Press covers up to ten and includes custom show branding so you can use AuthorOnAir as the engine for an imprint-branded podcast.

Yes. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period and you keep full access until then. No retention dance. No "are you sure" pop-ups. Annual plans aren't pro-rated on cancellation — but they save roughly 17% up front.

It is for authors who want a burst of launch content without a subscription. $99 buys four episodes inside a 30-day window — great for a release week push. No recurring fee. You don't need an existing account to buy: if you're new, we create one from your email at checkout. If you decide you want ongoing episodes after the launch month, you can step up to a Solo plan at any time.

Product

Better than you'd expect. We use a real-time AI voice model — natural pacing, warm tone, real understanding of what you're saying. You can pick from six distinct host personalities, each with a different interview style, and preview any of them before you commit. The free account includes a full 5-minute episode so you can judge the quality yourself before spending a cent.

Two safety nets. Mid-recording, just say "scratch that" and the host re-asks the question. After recording, our auto-edit pass removes filler words, trims awkward pauses, and cleans up false starts — so you sound polished even without a re-do. If you really want to start fresh, the "Re-record" button discards the current take and opens a brand-new interview session.

No studio required. A laptop or phone with a decent built-in microphone is plenty — our AI enhancement does the heavy lifting on audio quality. AirPods or a basic USB mic produces broadcast-quality results.

About an hour of your time per episode. The interview itself is roughly 30 minutes, then we auto-edit and you preview the result before it ships. Episodes typically go live the next day on your schedule.

Once you click "End recording," our pipeline kicks in automatically: it stitches your audio, normalises loudness to broadcast standard, runs a filler-word removal pass, generates AI show notes and a full transcript, and creates three short-form vertical clips ready for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. You can preview the edited master and download the MP3 before anything goes public — nothing publishes until you approve it.

Yes — every episode on a paid plan automatically generates three short-form vertical clips (9:16 aspect ratio, ready for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts). Each clip is produced from a highlight moment in your interview, trimmed and formatted for mobile-first viewing. Free and Launch Package episodes do not include clips.

Trust

Yes — clearly, in every episode's show notes and on the show page. Spotify and Apple require it, and frankly, listeners deserve to know. Your answers are real; the interviewer is artificial. We don't pretend otherwise.
